Definition

The thoracic cage, also known as the rib cage, is a bony structure formed by the ribs, sternum, and part of the spine (thoracic vertebrae), providing protection for vital organs such as the heart and lungs. It also supports the shoulder girdle and upper limbs, and plays a key role in respiration.
