Superior extensor retinaculum

Definition

The superior extensor retinaculum is a fibrous band that wraps around the front of the ankle, stabilizing the tendons of muscles that extend the toes and dorsiflex the foot. It ensures that these tendons do not bowstring away from the ankle during movement.
