Stratum granulosum

Definition

The stratum granulosum is a thin layer of the epidermis located between the stratum spinosum and the stratum lucidum, characterized by cells that appear granular due to the presence of keratohyalin granules. These granules play a key role in the process of keratinization, which provides a barrier against environmental damage.
