Definition

The reticular lamina is a layer of extracellular material containing a fine network of collagen protein fibers that lies underneath the basal lamina, part of the basement membrane that supports epithelial tissue. It provides mechanical support and anchors the epithelial tissue to the underlying connective tissue.
