Relative refractory period

Definition

The relative refractory period is the phase following an action potential during which a neuron can be stimulated to initiate another action potential, but only by a stronger-than-usual stimulus. It occurs right after the absolute refractory period and represents a time of decreased sensitivity to new stimuli.
