Postsynaptic potential is a change in the membrane potential of the postsynaptic terminal of a synapse, following the reception of a neurotransmitter. It can be depolarizing (excitatory) or hyperpolarizing (inhibitory), affecting the likelihood of a neuron firing an action potential.
