Definition
The occipital sinus is a small venous sinus located in the dura mater along the margin of the foramen magnum at the base of the skull. It collects blood from the internal vertebral venous plexuses and drains into the confluence of sinuses.
Dura Mater: The outermost layer of the meninges that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Foramen Magnum: A large opening at the base of the skull through which the spinal cord connects to the brain.
Confluence of Sinuses: A large collection area for venous blood situated at the base of the brain, where multiple sinuses converge before draining into internal jugular veins
