Definition

Motilin is a hormone produced by the endocrine cells in the upper intestine, primarily responsible for stimulating gastric activity and regulating gastrointestinal motility. It plays a key role in the migrating motor complex (MMC), which controls the pattern of gastrointestinal contractions in fasting state.
