Mesenteric plexus

Definition

The mesenteric plexus is a network of nerves located in the mesentery, which supplies nerve fibers to the intestines, primarily aiding in the control and regulation of gastrointestinal functions. It is part of the autonomic nervous system, specifically involved in managing digestion through modulating smooth muscle contraction, glandular secretion, and blood flow within the gut.
