Definition
The maxillary sinus is one of the four pairs of paranasal sinuses located in the maxilla bones beneath the eyes and above the upper jaw. They are the largest of the sinuses and play a role in humidifying and filtering the air we breathe.
Paranasal Sinuses: Air-filled spaces within the bones around the nasal cavity that help enhance voice resonance and moisten inhaled air.
Maxilla: A pair of facial bones that form the upper jaw and support the upper teeth, nose, and parts of the eye sockets.
Mucous Membrane: A layer of tissue lining various cavities in the body, including inside the nose and sinuses, that secretes mucus to protect and moisturize surfaces
