Mandibular fossa

Definition

The mandibular fossa is a depression in the temporal bone of the skull that articulates with the condylar process of the mandible, forming part of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It plays a critical role in allowing movements of the jaw such as opening, closing, and side-to-side motions.
