Definition

Keratinocytes are the primary type of cell found in the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, responsible for producing keratin, a protein that gives skin its strength and resilience. These cells originate from the basal layer and move upward, changing their form as they go, to eventually form the tough outer skin surface.
