Definition

Inhibin is a hormone produced by the gonads (ovaries in females and testes in males) and also by the placenta, which plays a crucial role in regulating the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) by the pituitary gland. It acts to decrease the secretion of FSH to help control the rate of gamete (sperm or egg) production.
