Definition

Chorionic villi are tiny, finger-like projections found on the chorion, the outermost layer of the placenta, which facilitate nutrient and oxygen exchange between the mother and the developing fetus. They contain embryonic blood vessels that allow for the transport of nutrients and waste products through the maternal bloodstream.
