Definition

The brachiocephalic vein is a large vein in the upper chest that is formed by the union of the internal jugular and subclavian veins on each side of the body, which then merge to form the superior vena cava. It is responsible for transporting deoxygenated blood from the head, neck, upper limbs, and thoracic wall back to the heart.
