Osmosis:The spontaneous movement of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane from a region of lower solute concentration to a region of higher solute concentration, in an attempt to equalize the solute concentrations on both sides.
Osmotic Pressure: The pressure that a solution exerts as a result of the tendency of water molecules to move from a region of lower solute concentration to a region of higher solute concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.
Tonicity:The relative concentration of solutes on either side of a semi-permeable membrane, which determines the direction of water movement and the resulting osmotic pressure.
