Xiphoid process

Definition

The xiphoid process is a small, cartilaginous projection at the lower end of the sternum, which becomes ossified (turned into bone) in adults. It serves as an attachment point for various muscles and ligaments involved in the functioning of the diaphragm, abdominal wall, and thoracic cage.
