Definition

The blood–testis barrier is a physical barrier formed by Sertoli cells in the testes that separates the seminiferous tubules from the bloodstream, protecting sperm from immune system attack and creating a controlled environment for spermatogenesis. It regulates the passage of molecules and ions between the bloodstream and the interior of seminiferous tubules, ensuring an optimal environment for developing sperm cells.
