The United States (US) is a country in North America. It's a federal republic, meaning it has a form of government made up of federal states with a representative democracy.

Analogy

The US government is like a sports team where each player (state) has specific roles but they all follow the same playbook (Constitution). The coach (federal government) oversees the team and makes sure everyone plays by the rules.
