Definition

This is a landmark civil rights and labor law in the United States that outlaws discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

Analogy

Imagine going to a restaurant and being told you can't eat there because you're wearing blue jeans. The Civil Rights Act is like a rule saying restaurants can't refuse service based on what someone is wearing (or their race, religion etc.).
