Definition

Perestroika was another policy implemented by Gorbachev in the 1980s aimed at restructuring the Soviet Union's economy by introducing elements such as market practices and private ownership.

Analogy

Imagine Perestroika as renovating an old house (the Soviet economy). You're not tearing it down completely but making significant changes like knocking down walls (removing strict government controls) and adding new rooms (introducing private businesses).
