Definition

Chitin is a long-chain polymer derived from glucose that forms part of the hard outer exoskeleton in insects, crustaceans, fungi, and other organisms.

Analogy

Imagine chitin as body armor for insects or crustaceans. It's tough and protective just like how body armor shields soldiers during battle.
