Oil Spills

Definition

An oil spill is an accidental or intentional release of liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the environment due to human activity. This often results in pollution and can be harmful to wildlife.

Analogy

Imagine you're at a party and someone knocks over a giant bowl of punch. It spreads everywhere, staining the carpet and ruining people's clothes. That's like an oil spill but on a much larger scale - it spreads quickly in water bodies, causing harm to marine life and polluting our environment.
