The Judiciary Act of 1789 was a law passed by the first U.S Congress that created the federal judiciary system, including the Supreme Court.
Think of the Judiciary Act as a blueprint for building a house. Just like how a blueprint outlines where each room, window, and door will go in a house, this act outlined how our federal court system would be structured.
Supreme Court: The highest federal court in the United States, consisting of nine justices and taking judicial precedence over all other courts in the nation.
District Courts: These are general trial courts where cases start at federal level. They handle both civil and criminal cases.
Circuit Courts: These are intermediate appellate courts in federal judicial system that hear appeals from decisions of district courts within their circuit.
