A resolution passed by the United Nations Security Council in 1966, which called for a voluntary arms embargo against South Africa due to its policy of apartheid.

Analogy

Think of Resolution 226 as a group of friends (the UN) deciding not to lend their toys (weapons) to another friend (South Africa) because they're not playing fair with everyone else (apartheid).
