Metacom’s War, also known as King Philip's War, was a conflict that took place from 1675 to 1678 between Native American tribes in New England and English colonists. It was one of the deadliest conflicts in American history and symbolized the intense resistance of Indigenous peoples against European encroachment on their lands and ways of life. The war was named after Metacom, the leader of the Wampanoag tribe, who united several tribes in an effort to challenge colonial expansion and assert Native sovereignty.
