Definition

A Dutch type of sailing vessel originally designed as a dedicated cargo vessel in the late sixteenth century.

Analogy

Imagine fluyts as modern-day container ships. They were not built for speed or warfare but specifically designed to carry maximum cargo with minimum crew required - just like container ships we see today!
