Definition
To identify refers to an individual's perception and recognition of their own gender identity, which may or may not align with societal expectations or the binary model of gender.
Analogy
Identifying your gender is like choosing a seat on a bus. Some people might choose seats at the front (male) or the back (female), but others might feel more comfortable sitting in different areas that don't conform to this binary arrangement.
