Isotopes

Definition

Isotopes are atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons but the same number of protons. They have identical chemical properties but differ in atomic mass.

Analogy

Isotopes can be compared to different flavors or varieties of a particular food product. For example, just like there can be different types of chocolate bars with varying amounts of nuts, isotopes have different numbers of neutrons while still being the same element.
