Maladaptive Diffusion

Definition

Maladaptive diffusion refers to the spread of an idea or innovation that is not suitable for the environment in which it has been introduced. It can lead to negative consequences as a result of its implementation.

Analogy

Think of maladaptive diffusion like trying to plant a cactus in the Arctic. The cactus, while perfectly suited for desert conditions, would struggle and likely die in such a cold climate. Similarly, certain ideas or innovations may work well in one context but cause problems when applied elsewhere.
