Definition

Diffusion in geography refers to the spreading out or dissemination of something - usually information, ideas or innovations - from a central point across space over time.

Analogy

Picture diffusion like dropping food coloring into water; it starts at one point but eventually spreads out evenly throughout all parts of water over time.
