Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)

Definition

Sulfur dioxide is a colorless gas with a pungent odor that is released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels containing sulfur are burned. It contributes to air pollution and can cause respiratory problems in humans.

Analogy

Imagine you're at a concert and someone near you starts spraying a foul-smelling substance. The smell becomes overwhelming, making it hard to breathe and enjoy the music. Similarly, sulfur dioxide releases an unpleasant odor into the air, affecting our ability to breathe comfortably.
