Christianity emerged in the 1st century CE within Second Temple Judaism during Roman occupation of Judea. Jesus of Nazareth, born in Bethlehem, began his ministry around age 30, gathering disciples and preaching a message of love, repentance, and the Kingdom of God. Jesus' teachings challenged religious authorities, leading to his crucifixion under Pontius Pilate. His resurrection, a central tenet of Christian faith, inspired the formation of early Christian communities. Despite persecution, Christianity spread throughout the Roman Empire, eventually becoming its official religion.
