from class:

Organic Chemistry

Definition

A Lewis structure is a graphical representation of the valence electrons of atoms within a molecule, illustrating how the electrons are distributed around atoms and how they participate in bonding. It helps in understanding the type of bonds (single, double, or triple) between atoms and the arrangement of lone pairs.
