National Security and Defense

Definition

National security refers to measures taken by a state to ensure its survival through use of diplomatic, military, and power projection means. Defense refers to the military forces and equipment a country uses to protect its borders and people.

Analogy

Think of national security and defense as your home's security system. The locks on your doors (defense) physically prevent intruders from entering, while the alarm system (national security measures) alerts you or authorities if someone tries to break in.
