The term "Chinese" refers to people originating from China or identifying with Chinese culture. China's civilization is one of the world's oldest with a complex history involving dynastic rule such as Han Dynasty, Tang Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.
Imagine Chinese as an intricate puzzle. Each piece represents different dynasties or periods - some pieces are filled with scientific advancements while others depict great wars or cultural revolutions. When you put all these pieces together you get a complete picture of Chinese history.
Han Dynasty: An imperial dynasty of China that lasted from 206 BC – 220 AD known for its long period of stability and prosperity known as Pax Sinica.
Tang Dynasty: A dynasty ruling China from 618-907 noted for its high level civil service examination system and flourishing arts & culture including poetry.
Qing Dynasty: The last imperial dynasty of China, ruling from 1644 to 1912 with a brief, abortive restoration in 1917. It was characterized by its Manchu leadership and the Opium Wars.
