Definition

In the context of the integumentary system, the medulla refers to the innermost layer of hair, made up of a soft, keratinized core that provides elasticity and flexibility to the hair strand. Within the context of gross anatomy of the kidney, it is the innermost part of the kidney that contains nephrons essential for urine production through filtration, reabsorption, and secretion processes.
