Let-down reflex

from class:

Anatomy and Physiology I

Definition

The let-down reflex is a physiological response in lactating mothers where the nervous system stimulates milk glands in the breasts to release milk into the ducts, making it available for the infant. This reflex is triggered by hormonal signals, particularly oxytocin, in response to an infant suckling or other stimuli related to feeding.
