Grants & Scholarships for First-Gen Students

Alabama Student Grant Program Students who attend participating colleges around the state may be eligible to receive up to $1,200 annually from this program.  
Federal Pell Grant Program This grant from the U.S. Department of Education is awarded based on a student’s household income.  
Florida First Generation Matching Grant Program State residents who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled in at least six credits per term at Florida schools may be eligible to receive this grant.  
Cal Grant program This state grant program is available to California residents who demonstrate financial need.  
First Generation Grant Grant provides assistance to students from low-income families.  
Toward EXcellence, Access and Success Grant Program TEXAS Grant provides assistance to students from low-income families.  
UC Santa Cruz Grants California residents at the University of California, Santa Cruz, can be considered for grants based on financial need.  
CIC/Walmart College Success Awards The Council of Independent Colleges and Walmart offer grants to first-generation college students at participating schools.  
Silas Purnell Incentive for Access Program Illinois provides this grant to freshmen who have limited ability to pay for college.  
Wisconsin Talent Incentive Program Grants Low-income and disadvantaged Wisconsin students who are enrolled in college at least part-time may receive this grant.  
American Dream Fellowship Competition Elmhurst College provides awards for first-generation college students, including one full four-year scholarship, to the winner of this scholarship competition.  
Dorrance Scholarship Available to high school seniors in Arizona who are first-generation students and plan to attend Arizona State University-Tempe, Northern Arizona University-Flagstaff or University of Arizona-Tucson.  
Odyssey Scholarship The University of Chicago offers this need-based scholarship to provide academic, social and career support to lower-income families or those who are first in their families to attend college.  
Benjamin and Patricia Allen Scholarship Iowa State University offers this scholarship to full-time college students who maintain a 3.0 grade point average, with preference being given to first-generation students.  
First Generation Scholarship First-generation college students attending Colorado Mesa University can receive $1,000 per year from this scholarship.  
Fontana Transport Inc. Scholars Program Provided to high school seniors who plan to study architecture, engineering, environmental design, math, pre-med, psychology, science, Spanish language or literature or transportation management in college.  
Cynthia E. Morgan Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is for first-generation Maryland students who are planning to enter a medical-related field.  
First-Generation Scholarship San Jose State University offers this scholarship, which has no GPA requirement, for students enrolled at least half time.  
First-Generation Scholarship Program The University of Southern California provides this scholarship for first-generation college students who have secured unpaid summer internships, in order to support this workplace experience that complements their coursework.  
ISFA First Generation College Student Program First-generation college students must submit financial documents, a resume, and a 500-word essay describing their experience as the first in their family to go to college.  
Education Dynamics This organization welcomes applications from minority students who are first-generation college students. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an associate or bachelor’s program at an accredited institution. The program also accepts applications from first-generation minority students enrolled in a certificate program.  
Imagine Dragons Origins Scholarship This program accepts applications from first-generation, refugee, or immigrant students. The program is open to applicants pursuing a degree at any level.  
Regents' Scholars Program First-gen college students admitted to the following institutions can apply to Texas A&M University at College Station, McAllen Higher Education Center, Engineering Academy at Blinn Bryan, and the Engineering Academy at Galveston.
