Definition

The Convention against Torture is an international human rights treaty aimed at preventing acts of torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment around the world. It obliges countries to take effective measures to prevent torture within their borders and forbids them from transporting people to any country where there is a risk they might be tortured.
