Definition

The extensor retinaculum is a fibrous band that wraps around the dorsum of the wrist, securing tendons of the extensor muscles in place as they cross into the hand. It ensures smooth and coordinated movements of the fingers and wrist by preventing bowstringing of the tendons during extension.
