Apneustic center

Definition

The apneustic center is a region in the lower pons of the brainstem that promotes inhalation by sending signals to the muscles involved in breathing, thereby controlling the intensity and duration of breaths. It works in conjunction with other respiratory centers to regulate the rhythm of breathing.
