## Check evidence use across historical periods

College Board's AP US History framework includes source analysis, contextualization, historical connections, and argumentation. Choose questions that reveal both content knowledge and reasoning. Use these review questions to plan the next class discussion.

| Practice focus | When choosing questions | What to review |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Founding debates and political change | Choose source-based questions about colonial society, independence, or the development of federal institutions. | Does the student explain the source within its historical context, rather than applying today's assumptions? |
| Reconstruction and citizenship | Select an available SAQ, DBQ, or LEQ that develops evidence about political or social change. | Does the response distinguish a change in law from its effects on people's lives, with relevant evidence? |
| Industrialization and reform | Choose questions that connect economic developments, migration, and reform movements across periods. | Does the explanation show why a development caused a response, or how a pattern continued over time? |

These are planning examples. Choose from the questions available in your course's bank.

### Look for the link between an event and its historical significance

Suppose a Reconstruction response correctly identifies a constitutional amendment. Check what the student does with that evidence next. Does the explanation connect the amendment to citizenship or political participation? Does it address the particular change the question asks about? Naming an amendment helps establish content knowledge, but the response still needs to explain the connection.

For a follow-up, choose a bank question that tests the missing reasoning. If the class confuses the historical sequence, revisit the period with a reading and MCQs. If students recall the developments but don't connect them to an argument, use another short writing task. This keeps the next assignment focused without repeating a whole unit assessment.

## Choose and share an assignment

Select your course and questions from Fiveable's existing bank. Publish the assignment and share its student link in Google Classroom or another LMS.

## Review and release the grades

MCQs score on submission. FRQs receive AI first reads using Fiveable's scoring guidelines. Review the feedback, adjust points, and release grades yourself.

## Use the responses to choose what comes next

A student may recall an amendment but need help explaining its significance within Reconstruction. Compare the class's unit and skill insights with the actual writing. Use a shared missed connection for a short discussion, then choose a follow-up question from the bank.
