# Fiveable MCP Documentation

## Overview

Fiveable MCP connects AP study content and student practice tools to supported AI apps. Use the canonical remote server endpoint: `https://fiveable.me/api/mcp`.

## Quick Start

1. Add a remote MCP connection in ChatGPT Developer mode, Claude, Cursor, or Visual Studio Code with GitHub Copilot Chat.

2. Paste `https://fiveable.me/api/mcp` as the server address.

3. Ask: `List the AP subjects Fiveable supports.`

## What Students Can Do

- Find course-aligned explanations and sources.

- Practice Fiveable questions and save signed-in progress.

- Get point-by-point feedback on a Fiveable FRQ or an uploaded prompt and response.

- Use saved progress to choose a study plan in the conversation. Saved-plan tools are shown only when enabled for this deployment.

- Estimate an AP score with a subject-specific calculator.

## Access

- Without an account: browse subjects, search, use calculators, and preview two complete study resources.

- With a free Fiveable account: preview five more complete resources, save progress, and score one FRQ.

- Existing access: previews are bypassed only for covered subjects and features, including eligible beta or classroom-sponsored resources. Classroom sponsorship does not include standalone FRQ grading or unrelated subjects. Website and MCP previews are separate.

## Permissions and Privacy

Fiveable requests only the permission a tool needs: read content, read the signed-in student's progress, or save practice work. The connected app never receives a Fiveable password. Notes stay in the AI conversation unless the student intentionally submits practice work.

New scopes for saved plans, assignment summaries, support reports, and generated visual cheatsheets require explicit consent before the corresponding tools can act. Existing connections do not silently gain permissions.

Submitted responses and necessary images go to the scoring processors described in Fiveable's AI transparency page. Optional account-linked MCP analytics default off in account settings; operational metrics exclude student answers and conversation text. Disconnect revokes access and preserves history. Account deletion follows Fiveable's existing workflow and published retention timelines.

## Assessment Boundaries

Exams and assignments must be completed on Fiveable's website. When enabled, MCP can discover exams, review the student's completed exam results, and return assignment summaries and released feedback. It does not administer exams or start, answer, grade, or submit assigned work.

## Troubleshooting

If a connection fails, confirm the endpoint is exactly `https://fiveable.me/api/mcp`, refresh the app's tool list, and reconnect. For help, email help@fiveable.me with the app name, failed step, and exact error message. Do not send passwords or authorization tokens.
