Amine: Amines are organic compounds containing a basic nitrogen atom with a lone pair of electrons. They are derivatives of ammonia, where one or more hydrogen atoms have been replaced by organic substituents.
Alkyl Group: An alkyl group is a hydrocarbon substituent derived from an alkane by the removal of a single hydrogen atom. In dimethylamine, the two methyl groups (CH3-) are alkyl groups.
Nomenclature: Nomenclature is the systematic naming of chemical compounds based on established rules and conventions. The naming of amines, including dimethylamine, is covered in the topic of 24.1 Naming Amines.
