Students who have taken a prior physical science or physics course often have an advantage because the basic situations feel less new. Free-body diagrams, energy bar charts, and motion graphs take repetition before they feel natural.

Who usually finds AP Physics 1 harder

AP Physics 1 is harder if you expect every problem to match a memorized example. The exam often changes the surface details of a problem so you have to identify the principle underneath.

How to make AP Physics 1 less hard

Start with representations before long calculations. For a new problem, sketch the situation, draw a force diagram or motion graph when relevant, write the conservation or dynamics relationship, then solve. That order keeps the math attached to the physics.

For the first two weeks of serious review, use this AP Physics 1 path:

  1. Days 1-3: Review kinematics and force diagrams. Practice translating between position, velocity, and acceleration graphs, then connect net force to acceleration.
  2. Days 4-6: Review work, energy, and momentum. Write one sentence after each calculation explaining what was conserved, what changed, and why.
  3. Days 7-9: Review torque and rotational motion. Pair every linear idea with its rotational version, such as force and torque, mass and rotational inertia, velocity and angular velocity.
  4. Days 10-11: Practice Experimental Design FRQs. Focus on identifying the independent variable, dependent variable, controlled variables, graph axes, and how the slope answers the question.

After those two weeks, mix timed MCQ sets with one FRQ every few days. Review missed questions by naming the physics idea, not just the formula. If the mistake was about a graph, redraw the graph. If it was about forces, redraw the force diagram.
