World War I & II: Two major global conflicts that took place during the first half of the 20th century. The US played significant roles in both wars.
Cold War: A period of geopolitical tension between powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its satellite states) and powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies and others).
Isolationism: A policy or doctrine advocating that a nation should stay out of disputes and affairs of other nations. The U.S largely followed this policy before entering World War I.
