National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry

Definition

Also known as "The Grange," this organization was founded in 1867 to advocate for rural communities and agriculture interests, providing social, educational, and political opportunities for its members.

Related terms

Farmers' Alliance: An organized agrarian economic movement among American farmers that developed in the 1870s. Like The Grange, it aimed to improve conditions for farmers.

Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA): A federal law passed in 1933 as part of New Deal response to Great Depression which aimed to boost agricultural prices by reducing surpluses; similar goals as those pursued by The Grange.
