The National Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that administers the nation's 154 national forests and 20 national grasslands. It was established in 1905 to provide quality water and timber for the nation's benefit.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA): The federal department responsible for developing and executing federal laws related to farming, forestry, rural economic development etc.
Wilderness Act (1964): A law that created legal definition of wilderness in United States; it protects around 9 million acres federally owned land from development.
National Grasslands: These are areas of land managed by the USDA Forest Service and designated as grasslands.
