The Bahamas is an archipelago and country in the Atlantic Ocean, located southeast of Florida. It was one of the first landfalls for Christopher Columbus in 1492 during his exploration journey.
Christopher Columbus: An Italian explorer who completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, opening up widespread European exploration and eventual conquest of Americas. His expeditions were sponsored by Spanish Crown.
Taino People: Indigenous people living in Bahamas when Columbus arrived. They were among first Native Americans encountered by Europeans.
Spanish colonization: The process by which Spain sent explorers and settlers to establish colonies in Americas following Columbus's discovery.
